This bug seems for me solved in 9.04. vrms use in this version $section =~
/contrib|non-free|restricted|multiverse/).
linux-restricted-modules-*, flashplugin-installer and xorg-driver-fglrx are
reported correct.

vrms uses the Section entry for a package to decide if it is non-free or
not. It should detect packages with the following in their section
entry as non-free: (non-free|restricted|multiverse)
nvidia-kernel-common should be detected as non-free in current versions
since it's section is restricted/
It also misses flashplugin-nonfree. I can confirm this on Hardy Heron
8.04.
