bug 228765 seems to be a duplicate of this one. Here is my comment
from that bug:
I am unable to make this crash on Intrepid.
My steps were
1) Create new user
2) Run polkit-gnome-authorization as my normal user
3) Go to freedesktop/hal/power-management/Shut down the system and click
I have the same problem, I can't find a workaround for polkit-gnome-
authorization. If it helps, you can revoke the blocks using the command-
line, which will stop polkit-gnome-authorization from crashing, although
it obviously doesn't fix the underlying problem. You run polkit-auth
--obtain
