Hi, I have exactly this same problem, and I have to do exactly the same thing to make it work again. I don't notice if it goes away between sessions, but it definitely gets forgotten when I reboot. I'm running Hardy updated from Gutsy on amd64, but it seems this happens on fresh installs too. I

I've confirmed this bug on Hardy on both amd64 and i386. It seems to be related to automatic login. If I set my laptop to automatic login, then reboot, the compose key settings are not active after startup. If I then log out and then log in manually, the compose key settings work again. You

Seems this is the same bug I was about to file. Every time I reboot my compose key is forgotten, though layout options still indicates the settings I have. To repro: System-Preferences-Keyboard Layouts Tab, Layout Options button Compose key position, check 'Menu is Compose.' open some window

I can partly reproduce this: logging in and logging out will sometimes reproduce the problem - but not always. Also, the problem occured during a session, i.e. compose-key worked, then 5 minutes later compose key suddenly doesn't work. This is on a system with Hardy, a generic 104 key keyboard
