Manually expiring this bug (should have expired years ago).
I couldn't find anything wrong in hardy's networking script so this leads me to
think something is wrong with the reporter's system.
Could you try to reproduce this on a clean installation, ideally of a more
recent Ubuntu and then file
I know this bug is kind of old... but I've been having this problem with 11.10.
Every time I boot or resume my Cr-48, I have to manually run
sudo service networking start
And then I have to do
sudo iwlist wlan0 scanning
Only then does Network Manager finally pick up APs and connect.

I have exactly the same problem. After boot the network doesn't start. I
tried:
sudo ifdown -a
sudo ifup -a
and it solved the problem, although I have been using:
sudo invoke-rc.d network restart
which also solves the problem. The annoyance is that I have to do that
after every boot. It seems

Thanks for looking into this
I commented out my fixes in /etc/init.d/networking, and I removed
/var/run/network/ifstate, but upon reboot, networking did not start.
ifconfig attached.
ifdown -a
ifup -a
resolved it again.
