I am experiencing what is likely the same thing with 11.04 (Natty
Narwhal) i386 (2.6.38-8-generic), having installed Ubuntu on one
particular PC for the first time.
PC has two hard discs: boot disc is IDE and a second hard disc is SATA.

I basically have the same problem, using kernel 2.6.27-4-generic. My
operating systems are installed on an IDE drive, which is supposed to be
/dev/sda, other than that I have a SATA drive for storage which is
supposed to be /dev/sdb. What happens now is that the drive order
sometimes changes when

upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
