Hi. I am closing this bug because I believe the install failures have
been fixed. There have been many recent releases of ia32-libs since
this bug was opened, and I haven't received a report similar to this in
a very long time. If the package breaks again please feel free to open
a new bug
I am not using Ubunt on this 64bit machine anymore due to bug

I had the same problem to install ia32-libs, but I was using nvidia-glx-177. I
solved the problem using Brian's workaround:
sudo aptitude reinstall nvidia-glx-180
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

I had nvidia-glx-177 installed already yet was having this issue, so
upgrading to it was not a relevant workaround for me.
That said, I just ran sudo aptitude reinstall nvidia-glx-177 (after
removing the packages broken by the failure of ia32-libs to install,
flashplugin-nonfree and

After updating my nvidia driver from 173 to 177 I tried to install
ia32-libs again and it worked this time. I was able to install
ia32-libs (2.2ubuntu18)

amd64 version of 8.10.

I solved it removing nvidia-glx, installing ia32-libs and re-installing
nvidia-glx
