While I cannot figure this out, the more I study, I see: grub sees partition / at BusyBox it has disappeared. when trying to load newer kernel the wrong partition is mounted for root, in this case it is NTFS. Due to /dev/sdb bcoming /dev/sdd, instead. I suspect it was booting ok before a

I have confirmed that the drives on that controller and the uuids do not appear at the busybox prompt, even when booting without bootit ng. The root in menu.lst also is (hd3,1) (in grub) which is incorrect, it must be manually set to (hd1,1) to boot. -- drive adapter seen on Live CD partitioner
