I have a similar problem with a Thinkpad X60. When I set nosplash in
/boot/grub/menu.lst, the last message I see before hanging is
input: Thinkpad Extra Buttons as /devices/virtual/input/input12
If I turn the wireless switch OFF AND boot into recovery mode, then the
boot progresses. This is with

I've noticed that some times the actual line it hangs at is just after
Detected Intel Wirless Wifi Link 3945ABG e.g. at the synaptic touchpad
driver line instead.

Hi Nick,
Can you provide the output of 'cat /proc/version_signature' so we can
see which version of the kernel you are running? I saw some previous
bug reports commenting the kernel would hang right around the time
iwl3945 would load but this was resolved with the newer 2.6.27-3 kernel.
