I and others have confirmed that this bug is fixed now; I've been suspending
my laptop several times a day since the release of 9.10, and never had a
problem.
Is there anything we can/should do now?

Karmic update: you do not need workarounds to suspend or resume in
karmic. But sometimes you may experience no connection after resume... I
think it is another problem since /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart
solves it. New bug, marking this one fixed?

[intrepid] cannot suspend with module
I have simmilar issue with my Toshiba L305-S5955. Unfortunetly none of
the scrips posted here work for me. If I manually rmmod rtl8187 then
suspend resume works. /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager and
added comands to remove module post command to NM and insert module
prior comman to NM
The elegant solution is create a new config file like
/etc/pm/config.d/01suspend_modules with SUSPEND_MODULES=rtl8187 in it.
But here (Semp Toshiba IS 1454, jaunty, 2.6.28-*-generic) I suffer with
some kernel oops using this solution. I think the problem is the order
of unloading. So I still use
I tried Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 3 (kernel 2.6.31) from a USB
startup disk and I was able to suspend successfully (and very quickly, I
might add!). Can anyone else try and report here?

Hélio's 09_workaround works on toshiba satellite l40-18w but i had to
create a /etc/pm/config.d/11rtl8187_workaround file with the contents:

otherwise it would just lock the screen.
Thank you!

I would like to confirm that Hélio's solution works perfectly on my

I am so glad i found this bug report and this solution. This suspend

Hello Hélio,
Thanks for your workaround. Initially it didn't work on my Toshiba Satellite
L40-14N. I then figured out I had to make the file executable with the command:
sudo chmod +x 09_rtl8187_workaround
and now it works. I can now suspend. I still can't hybernate, but that's
another issue

Here are a couple of links for reference purposes.
This first link is not directly related to this particular bug as it is
just a general issue/regression with suspend/resume in Linux
http://torvalds-family.blogspot.com/2008/12/life-is-good-again.html
as for the issue with the driver itself
I can confirm this on my Toshiba Satellite a205. The workaround has not
worked yet, as it does not seem to be loading at all for some reason,
any ideas on whats going wrong? The suspend log still seems to skip by
it:
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/05led suspend: not applicable.

Hello hyperair,
11_rtl8187_workaround does not work for me. After resume, the network is

'sudo ifconfig wlan0 down' does not result in any messages and the
network applet still showing connected state. But 'ifconfig' does not
For me personally the solution with the script starting with 09_rtl817...

the computer just blocked and I had to shut it down using the power button.
After trying the same script starting with 11_rtl8187... it was all
Hello there Hélio Nunes. Could you test if it works if you put the workaround
after 10NetworkManager? (i.e. change the name to 11_rtl8187_workaround)? If it
doesn't work, please post the output of dmesg that results after this:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo rmmod rtl8187
Also, does it work
I can confirm this bug on a Dell Latitude C810 with an RTL8187B USB
stick which registers as rtl8187. I'm running Intrepid RC, fully updated
as of Oct 24. My situation exactly matches what is described here. More
details, if needed are here:

I can also now confirm that the workaround posted by Hélio Nunes works for me.
Thanks!

I found a workaround that is working here without the event/0 problem.
I don't know if is the order of unload/load, but
SUSPEND_MODULES=rtl8187 does not work very well. Instead, I created a
file (/etc/pm/sleep.d/09_rtl8187_workaround, attached, 09_name is
important) to unload the module right

Same problem here. I have added rtl8187 to SUSPEND_MODULES and pm-
suspend works. But after the 2nd suspend/resume, when nm-applet shows
the authentication animation, events/0 uses 100% cpu, and I have to
rmmod rtl8187 by force to get the system working again. The workaround
does not works! :(

kern.log shows a lot of suspension/wakeup, the error related with
events/0, forced rmmod rtl8187 and some forced poweroff. There are some
acpi errors like ACPI Error (psargs-0358): [BRTW] Namespace lookup
failure, AE_NOT_FOUND.
