Title:
Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)

Not fixed in 64-bit Jaunty running KDE 4.3 RC2 with all updates applied
as of 2009-07-20. Does the fix show up in Karmic only?
The "litmus test" for this (at least on my system) is to try videos at
http://www.komonews.com/ which will always work in Firefox and almost
never work in Konqueror. Mos

The inconsistency looks as if it may be related to whether flash9 has
ever been installed.
On a jaunty system updated from hardy -- no problems.
On a new system, no flash with the default install in konqueror (OK in
firefox). Installed the hardy plugin which worked but with no sound (and

It works on some sites, not on others. It typically works very well on
google video. There are other sites (http://www.komonews.com/) where it
usually does not work.

It looks like there is a working patch in the kde-bugs #169626 page. Any
chance on having this applied to Jaunty and Intrepid? (I am on Mythbuntu
Intrepid, so would greatly appreciate the backport as firefox is not a
great replacement to mythbrowser in terms of mythtv integration).

Doesn't seem to be working right in Jaunty at this point either. Just
tried on a fresh install of Jaunty beta -- I open konqueror, go to a
flash website (www.homestarrunner.com) and am prompted to download the
necessary plugins. I download, refresh, and am prompted again. If I
try to download, I
Same problem here. I've had it since KDE 4.0. It never happened with KDE
3.5.x. Yesterday, I did a fresh install of kubuntu 8.10, and upgraded to
KDE 4.2. The problem has not changed. I can confirm that on other
machines with similar setups, Flash 10 does work in Firefox, a lot of
times I do have t
Philippe: I believe what you're doing won't work, because the directory
in which flash lives has moved since Hardy. (In fact, I think it's
different from Intrepid to Jaunty.) I know that I replaced flash10 with
flash9 as I said above and it definitely works.

For what it's worth I just tried replacing flash 10 by the latest update
from hardy of flash 9 and it still does not work. This is seriously
broken.

Here is an interesting bit. I see one circumstance where Flash 10 will
generally work: Go to youtube or some other site with a flash movie on
the page. You will see a white region where the flash movie is. Right
click on the flash movie and the flash menu comes up. None of the
actions do anyth
BTW, I should note that the original problem with flash 10 is
INTERMITTENT. I have seen flash work on pages from time to time (I
would estimate about 1 out of 20 or so. Then, even pressing reload on
the same page, flash will fail to start. It is also noteworthy that if
you right click on the reg
Just to verify: I see this same problem on 9.04 (Jaunty alpha 4). I can
fix it by doing a simpler version of what jartsa suggests above.
1) Go to adobe, and get the deb for ubuntu 8.04+, save locally
2) sudo dpkg --install install_flash_player_10_linux.deb
3) Then get the fp9 archive as suggest

Uh, so if you change the references from flash...10 to 9, then you
should also copy the chosen tar.gz to /var/cache/flashplugin-

That's not a workaround - that's installing flash9 instead of flash10.
OTOH: Another confirmation for this bug. Works in Firefox, but not in

I found a workaround: just install the flashplugin-nonfree package from
hardy-backports.
Steps:
* go to
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/i386/flashplugin-nonfree/download
* download the package from a mirror
* sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
* sudo dpkg -i
flashplugin-nonfree_1
I can confirm this bug. I noticed that if I open a video of youtube with
Firefox and later open the same video with Konqueror it is displayed
correctly.

I've got the same issue on Youtube. It is remarkable that the Flash
plugin is loaded (noticeable by a short gray 'flash' on the place where
the video is supposed to be, and right clicking on that empty space
gives you a context menu). So I guess that once the Flash plugin is
started, I gets stuck s
Konqueror output when run from teminal and navigated to BBC sport site, with
