I have the same problem now (8.10). Haven't noticed this before, but I
rarely use the Trash in Nautilus.
I have tried to delete /home/myuser/.local/share/Trash and also roots
trash (to make them regenerate to make sure there isn't a permission
problem), but it doesn't help.
The empty trash
Also, the same problem is there when I run nautilus as root and try to
empty roots trash.

I actually have the same problem. Like the previous poster, I'm not sure
what caused it but I also only move items to the trash via right-click
or the delete key on the keyboard.

I do it two ways By hitting the delete button on the keyboard or by
right clicking and then Move to trash I rarely ever do the drag and
drop to the trash. It did happen again about a week ago on the final
version of Intrepid... But it happens so rarely, It's not really a
problem to me.

Again after a restart I am able to Empty the trash from within the
window. I wish I knew more to help.

Well it just happened again (10/30/08 1:20AM ET) ... This is the Second
time. Same thing... I have no idea how this happens. I'm not changing
