Got it fixed after removing below folders: .fontconfig .fonts and file .fonts.conf for some reason, my font cache was cribbing about obsolete cache so tried this. Now it's working. As of now I don't those folders again created, so some locally installed fonts are missing. But that's fine.

I removed a lot of cruft in the upload series i made. no-bitmaps seems an invalid victim of this effort. so to workaround: a) use good fonts ... you can achieve that by disallowing firefox to use the websites fonts (e.g. in preferences dialog) or b) sudo ln -s /etc/conf.avail/70-subpixel*

As we discussed on IRC, the patched fontconfig creates far more problems than it solves. Yes, fonts in Firefox 3.1 and Firefox 3.2 do look marginally better and have antialiasing, but it comes at the expense of the system's overall subpixel rendering appearance. -- No subpixel smoothing
