I turned Compiz and the Snapping Windows plugin on with Karmic but I
didn't see the problem.

You can fix it by setting
xinput set-int-prop Your_touchpad_name Synaptics Edge Motion Speed
32 0 0
or
synclient EdgeMotionMinSpeed=0 EdgeMotionMaxSpeed=0
Edge motion doesn't work on ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad anyway besause it
doesn't measure pressure.

PPA is no reason to set a bugtask's status to Fix Committed.

Me fixed this! All you need to do is add my ppa and you'll get an update
to the package which fixes this.

I'm not running compiz. I'm using the XFCE desktop. Turning the xfwm4
compositor on or off makes no difference. Turning window snapping on or
off also makes no difference. I also tried Gnome/Metacity -- that also
made no difference.

@LarryGrover: Of course it wont! It's the X server's driver's fault. X
is used like 99.99% of the time on linux distros (for home machines, not
servers).

I see this same problem. It doesn't happen when dragging with my mouse.
I don't see anything unusual when I running synclient -m 1
simultaneously with reproducing this anomaly--the coordinates reported
don't jump.
I found that the problem goes away if I disable the compiz plugin called
Snapping
My first comment addressed to kennydude was referring to his immediate
preceding comment of his losing the ability to left touch-click. (At
least I think that is how I interpreted his comment).
My second comment was referring to the original report of this bug--
windows jumping to the top left
still borken... i am now using an external mouse.
This bug doesn't really concern me much longer because I am moving to
Leopard.

I'm seeing the same bug: when dragging a window on the desktop it
somewhat randomly and abruptly snaps to the top left of the desktop,
with most of the window off-screen. Very annoying. It happens on both
XFCE and Gnome desktops (xfwm4, metacity), so it's probably an xorg bug
and not a window
Yeah now for some reason the left click isn't working and it's doing my
heading! Please somebody help me fix this!
