I believe my problem is similar, but would like to add a new twist:
The thesaurus feature is available when the cursor is in some locations,
but not available in other locations on a document. There doesn't seem
to be any reason for this, but as I move randomly throughout the

Moving/removing the ~/.openoffice.org* directories might help but other
than that I am not sure what would be the problem if the thesaurus is
installed.
