I added label with space and checkgmail not working.
I deleted the label from prefs.xml file and checkgmail backed to work.

Similar/same problem here.
Installed checkgmail using synaptic today (running 10.04) and checkgmail
seemed to be working well. On next restart, checkgmail icon was missing
from panel and App Internet CheckGmail did not appear to do
anything. Ran /usr/bin/checkgmail and got the error message
Received this error when starting checkgmail:

Eduardo is right about his comment. I have two labels that start with a
dot (.). Checkgmail stores label names directly in prefs.xml, and this
causes errors.

I have the same problem and maybe it is related to having spaces in
label names. I've opened prefs.xml in firefox and it says that the XML
is not well formed and it points to the same line and column.
I think the problem in checkgmail lies in using label names directly to
create the attributes in
Is it possible that this has something to do with a weird character in a
label name? I renamed a few labels recently, adding a ~ to them, and
after I renamed them in Checkgmail, it stopped working, wouldn't launch
and all.
I'll delete the .checkgmail directory, and see how it goes after I try
to
When removing the settingsfile in the homedir, CheckGmail works again.

I get the same thing. I installed checkgmail yesterday for the first
time. It was working; but today I started up my computer and I got what
you described.
