Hello,
I have a similar problem, my notebook Dell D630 usually does not resume from
suspend
mode. It managed to resume successfully once or twice only, all the other
times, during wake up HD led flashes for a while and then blank screen appears
with an underline cursor.

yes suspend/resume works if the notebook is NOT docked. Just the spin-up of the
hard disk sounds not well on resume after suspend to RAM. I just did some more
tests and it seems that suspend to disk/resume is working when docked. So
forget my last post.

the notebook is docked into docking station.

Just to clarify things up: I am talking about suspend to RAM.
- I think it does happen during resume (it suspends fine and shuts down
everything). On resume the display keeps blank
- It is reproducible. But it only fails if the notebook is docked into the
docking station
- Suspend to RAM never
