Hello, I have a similar problem, my notebook Dell D630 usually does not resume from suspend mode. It managed to resume successfully once or twice only, all the other times, during wake up HD led flashes for a while and then blank screen appears with an underline cursor.
Hibernate and resume from hibernate seems to work fine. Note I use a freshly 9.04 amd64 installation, previously I had no suspend/resume problem with 8.04, 8.10 i386 installations.
