I am having the same problem with the audio, WITH pulseaudio installed.
I have tried reinstalling, and I still get the problem. I have
experience this with both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. I have

I don't know what just happened but after installing pulseaudio (no
commands or reboot) my sound worked and all is fine. I've attached a
bunch of screenshots of my xfce4-mixer configuration and my tray. I
think after the whole time the volume was just at 0% even though in the
mixer I set it to

I am actually not sure what sound card I have because the HP website has
drivers for Realtek HD Audio and xfce4-mixer says that I have 2,HDA
Intel (ALSA) and Realtek ALC268 (OSS).
Oh, and pulseaudio is not installed and I was wondering if it is meant
to be installed.
