Re: above
For me the command given: sudo mv /lib/modules/`uname -r`/sound/acore
/root/acore
errored out, because I have a kernel directory between uname -r and
sound. Stock Intrepid 8.10 install aside from the aforementioned
external ALSA modules. I typed this instead:
sudo mv
The problem that this bug describes is triggered by out of tree ALSA
modules conflicting with the official modules in the kernel. This leads
to sound modules failing to load and sound failing to work. Removing
those modules return sound support.

@balburbg -- ok your output there confirms that you have foreign modules
installed which are not part of the official distribution. Removing
those should sort this problem out. I see you have upgraded which would
have installed a fresh kernel and also have sorted your sound out, which

Hi Andy,
The following output was received for snd.ko:
find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name 'snd.ko'
Returns: /lib/modules/2.6.27-11-generic/kernel/sound/acore/snd.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.27-11-generic/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko
ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.27-11-generic/kernel/sound/acore/snd.ko

No sound in Intrepid after kernel update to 2.6.27-11.31
Hi Andy,
I also found this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267963
Although I have not seen bug reports by user Zillode, this user encountered the
no sound problem again around the same date as we did. Thus it might be
related. He claims he has a way to fix the problem.

Ok the snd-hda-intel seems to match that we expect. The module symbol
which is missing is in snd.ko. So could those of you affected also
attach the same output for snd.ko, as well as the output of modinfo snd.

No sound
As the returned info from my Via 82xx integrated sound setup (reported
in bug #357970) appears to differ from that posted in rirad's linux bug

That implies that there is a genuine missmatch from the moduels there to
the kernel. Could we get an md5sum for the modules which are reporting
the missmatch, snd_hda_intel snd_ac97_codec etc. We should get an ls -l
and an md5sum for all versions of those files which appear in
Hi Andy,
I have written all the requested information in the attached file 'linux
bug 357970 attachment 1.txt'
Although my system only reports an error with snd_hda_intel, I also
included the requested information for the modules reported by bug
358237.
Please let me know if you need more info.
In the following Ubuntu question posted by baldurbg, there is also a
user Jonathan that reported a similar problem but in his case with
snd_go7007 and go7007.
