Seems that this issue is still repsent in Lucid x86_64. Kile is slow when working with large documents, to be precise, GUI responsiveness is low. Starting Kile with '--graphicssystem raster' does help. And yes, I have an NVIDIA videocard with dirvers (version like 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04) --

No showdowns so far? How boring, you should change the channel :p There seems to be no connection between the project size and the slow down. I kept deleting parts of the text and it was still there even with only a few lines of text left. Especially slow is highlighting multiple lines

I can confirm everything that Uwe said, especially the part about highlighting multiple lines, which is a more precise description of what I originally meant by slow. My files are small and size doesn't seem to matter. It seems that changing fonts somewhat changes the speed, although it could be
