I can confirm the bug on Natty. The bug itself depends on an icon theme
— for example, it works with Faenza and Gnome-colors.
As a workaround, I deleted pidgin icons from these themes — this cause
pidgin to use the default icon, which is working fine.
Please reopen.

It mentions the blink effect... maybe it will also fix this bug?
