Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become
corrupt. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem
still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test.

Ok, firstly tried renaming the firefox-3.5 profile and restarting and
then it created a new profile based on my existing firefox 3 profile! -
doh!
Renamed both existing profiles and let 3.5 create a brand new vanilla
profile, made the necessary settings and - hooray - the memory caching
now
Well, I think the profile import works for a majority of the people. Perhaps
you had an extension installed that was blocking the cache from working? It
works for me, but I never customized any of the preferences in about:config.
