Instructions for grub2, courtesy Moneta Funzionata :
In terminal run 'sudo gedit /etc/default/grub'
change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash reboot=b
save and exit file
In terminal run
I'm a bit stumped here for the proper solution then. Am resetting back
to Triaged for now.

the system did not properly restart. I'm left with a screen that has:

Hrm, that's very odd as this should have fixed the issue. If you add
reboot=b as a boot option to the test kernel's command line does it
allow you to reboot?

specific system and uploaded a *Karmic* test kernel at the following:

You should be able to do a quick test with this karmic kernel from
within your normal Jaunty install.

Hrm, what if I were to build you a Jaunty test kernel? Would you be
able to test? Otherwise, without any confirmation that the patch fixes
the issue, we're sorta stuck here.

production systems where I work. I do not have the ability to take one
out of service to test 9.10 Alpha. Are there any other options?

If you can, please first confirm this issue remains and the reboot=b
workaround is still valid with the latest Karmic 9.10 Alpha release -
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . The reason I need
confirmation against Karmic is that this patch first needs to be
submitted against
