Hi Jeremy,
I have frontends running Intrepid, Karmic and Lucid, and a
backend/frontend on Intrepid. mythtv is 0.22 version (on all, of
course). Mythtv is running on all systems; I have not seen the original
bug in a while.
What is still not right is that whatever is playing - like Rythmbox - is
Hi ullix,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue,
I have a stereo set of speakers hooked to my sound card via an analog
connection. I lost sound in mythfrontend when I upgraded from jaunty to
karmic. To get sound back, I had to change my sound output device from
ALSA:default to ALSA:surround51. My guess is that the default alsa
device just won't
Note: I did not have the same mythfrontend warning messages as the
original report had, I just didn't have any audio output.

Ignore my last comment - I found that MythTV 0.22 deliberately suspends
the PulseAudio server when it runs and then resumes PA when MythTV
quits.
To get around it, all I had to do was add export
EXPERIMENTALLY_ALLOW_PULSE_AUDIO=1 to the end of my ~/.profile file,
log out and back in and now
I concur that with MythTV 0.21, changing the output device to
ALSA:front (didn't need to do the rest) works fine, but the audio from
the rest of the system halts as previously described.
MythTV 0.22 works with ALSA:default as the output device, but audio
from the rest of the system is still

I am having the same troubles. This seems to (only?) affect ALSA output.
MythTV with JACK output works fine.

OSS output also works. This is definitely an ALSA only output issue.

I managed to get output working using the ALSA output mode of MythTV. It
turns out that more specifically, audio output to ALSA:default via
MythTV is defunct. I set the output string to my actual card/output
(ALSA:front:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0), and it's working fine.
