It's clearly possible to control grub's configuration in a more fine-grained way than that. However, I'm not going to respond in detail to a message with this tone. -- grub legacy as install option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415941 You received this bug notification because you are a member

So for anyone who wants an OS where the user is in control it has to be; 1) boot grub 2) toggle Ubuntu Karmic (makeactive chainloader +1) 3) boot grub2 4) wait for the 10 sec countdown (because grub2 is uneditable the user can't shorten it to 1 or 0) So much for shorter boot times. -- grub

Reassigning over to the installer; we'll think about this. I assume you're going to file (or have already filed) *specific* bug reports about *individual* problems with grub2, though? Grab-bag bug reports of the form it's all horrible tend not to be so useful. :-) ** Package changed: grub2

By which I mean that we'll think about making the existing preseedable option more visible. We're pretty committed to grub2 as the default at this point, although expect a lot more work to be done on it. -- grub legacy as install option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415941 You received this

I also think that having grub legacy as the default for 9.10 is important for it's success. Grub 2 has failed all the real world tests I have put it through and until it's matured it is going to cause a lot of people trouble. Adding it as an option at the end of ubiquity install (in advanced menu
