Please search for the rsyslog. It seems to me that your logging daemon is not running. Please look at the Processes tab in the System Monitor application (can be found in System Administration System monitor. Choose View | All Processes from the menu and check if rsyslog is listed. Actually

just following here because I have this issue as well. I checked my system and I see NO logging daemon installed on mine. either. synaptic shows syslog rsyslog not being installed but in bootchart it either loads or trys to load. I'm going to install rsyslog and see what happens --
