Suspend does not work on my Inspiron 1501 with 2.6.32 from upstream. It
goes to sleep and the power light pulses as it is a asleep, upon opening
lid, I see a textmode kernel message (too quick to read) and the screen
never comes back.

[Dell Inc. Inspiron 1501] hibernate/resume failure
Will do - yes resuming from hibernate after about 6 hours failed. Can you
point to a good place to explain how to install the upstream kernel? I'm
happy to try it but I've never done it before...

@Geoff,
To install those upstream kernels, I'd encourage you to ask for help in
Ubuntuforums.org or IRC channels #ubuntu in freenode.net.
Anyway, you just only have to install those .deb i386. To do it, ensure
yourself you have gDebi installed, and those deb will work with double
clic. gDebi
Hi all,
Please, can you tell us whether this is still an issue for you?
If so, please, can you include your last karmic kernel (2.6.31-16)?
To do it, just run following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach
running updates then ill see if it still happens

Hi. Yes this is still an issue. Occasionally after a short period of
hibernation resume is successful, but I would say less than 1 time in 10 -
I've more or less given up on using suspend/hibernate at all.
Thanks for the update, I've run apport-collect now and it looked as if that
attached all the
well it did for me strangly

Hi all,
Please, can you all try 2.6.32 (Lucid upstream kernel) to confirm that
this can be Fixed?
This kernel can be located on http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/
If issue persists, please, include logs again.
Thanks in advance.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Sorry, I should add that both hibernate and suspend resumed successfully
just now after about 2-3 minutes. I'll test it with a longer period
tomorrow and let you know if that works the same.

@George: Yes, please other reporters, with different hardware have reported
that suspension works if resume is made less that 1 hour, but crashes in
other cases.
Please, try this to complete the bug.
