I can confirm that this is also an issue in edgy. I had to comment out a lot of wacom stuff from xorg.conf. The synaptics touchpad was set to /dev/psaux which caused, according to Xorg.0.log, the synaptics driver to be unloaded, although I could use it. However, by changing that to

My laptop has the same problem. Pointing, clicking, right-clicking, and tap-to-click worked fine. The side-scroll and middle button did not. I performed a sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg and it corrected the problem, along with another xserver problem I had. See
