I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest stable kernel available for it
(don't know the exact number).
Also, I have installed the ATI driver, and VirtualBox.
I have the same problem, while copying is fast (60 MB/second), the
system becomes very sluggish.

Hello.
I've tried with the latest kernel for karmic (2.6.34-020634rc2) and the problem
still happening.
But it only happens on my Kubuntu 9.10 upgraded from 9.04, as I had mentioned
in the report. The problem does not happen with a clean installation of Kubuntu
9.10 or 10.04 in the same machine

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

While copying some larger videos from a ntfs disk to the harddisk ubuntu
resides on I get copying speeds of 50MB/s but it takes 20 seconds to
launch the calculator.

I still have the same problem with the latest upgrade to 2.6.31-15.50 version
I have to still use the 2.6.31-11.36 version with which I have no problems.

Hi everyone
I did a clean install of Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 32bit. And i got exactly the
same problem.
In my case copying folder with approx. size of 3.6 GB brought the system to a
crawl. Even moving the mouse, switching between windows was a impossible.
Then i tried to copy using the
