The option does exist, and it is checked when I look in gconf-editor.
So I'm not sure why it would still wait for the battery to drain down to
1 minute of like left.

So untick it and everything should work. It appears your time remaining
calculation may be wrong.

Sorry for the delay in getting these logs.
I just tried letting the system run down, and the hibernation happened
properly, but I am attaching the logs anyway. I'm going to guess that,
in the past, the battery was running down more quickly than it was this
time - it was idle this time, whereas
You could try changing the value of /apps/gnome-power-
manager/use_time_for_policy but I don't know if that key will exist in
2.14

*crazyness* :-) That should all just work. I'm guessing the schema is
installed okay, but it might be worth checking /apps/gnome-power-
manager/battery_time_critical in gconf-editor fo sane values.

What sort of value(s) should this have?

Yes, I'm running this on Dapper so I'd rather stick with Dapper
packages. However if there is a Gnome 2.16.x backport to Dapper I'd
love to hear about it!

At 2% it usually says ~2-3 minutes. The last few percent generally
scale roughly as 1% ~ 1 to 2 minutes.

Sorry for the delay in adding these logs. There's nothing in here from
what I can tell - no messages or otherwise.
My battery ran down roughly along this schedule relative to the logs:
~16% - ~8:21
5% - ~8:48
3% - ~8:52
2% and plugged back in - ~8:54

those logs or does the system need to run down completely?

Yes, I am able to hibernate and suspend to ram normally - using the
panel/battery applet, at the logout dialog, and from the command line
(/etc/acpi/hibernate.sh).
From what I can tell, the system never even attempts to hibernate, the
system just runs normally up until the battery dies.

First of all, I'm sorry no one got on this bug sooner. Second of all,
this might be a bit hard to debug since I doubt you want to let your
battery run down and leave it near 5% just for debugging ;).
That said, could you please find the logs from when this happened? They
should be in
I'd be happy to do some debugging as my laptop battery runs down... just
let me know what to check for and I'll do so.
As for the /var/log/acpi* logs, my battery died within the last day or
two, so either acpid or acpi.1.gz will have the relevant information in
there. Should I post both, or wait
If you are willing to, that would be awesome! Wait until it dies down,
then post /var/log/syslog, /var/log/acpid/ /var/log/dmesg, and
/var/log/debug as well as telling us the time when it actually powered
down. Also, please post them as attachments.
