Hey guys,
i would like to reopen this bug
ubuntu lucid...synaptic ...inconsistently hangs the system... I must
ctrl+alt+F1... killall synaptic restart gdm... log in and run synaptic when
it happens..
As I said it is inconsistent but frequent enough that i start software sources
first

well as i issued the command you asked me to, i ran into an bug in
apport on lucid. but all the sudden synaptic acts sane again.
so thanks very much for your time and sorry for any inconveniences.

here is a second try:
What I did: Whenever I start synaptic on my up2date lucid system synaptic
freezes while reading the package lists (at least it tells so in the statusbar
on the bottom of the window). The progressbar goes up to a tenth and stays
there. Synaptic
