I have the same problem in Dapper amd64, Vlc and Totem with maximizedes windows.
Any problem with Kaffeine.

Actually, it works here when using Beryl only on edgy here with VLC
0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-1ubuntu1. This may indicate a bug with

I use xfwm4 in Edgy. Only when I disable Settings Preferences Video
(Advanced Options) Window decorations, fullscreen works as expected. As
far as I'm aware, this behavior is intentional.

I notice that the latest Edgy VLC has this bug, I am not sure if it was
fixed at any point.

I think it is? I can't get vlc to get to full screen. You always see the
gnome top and bottom panels. And I can remember something with alternate
full screen. That we tryed that, but wasn't a succes. I also have a
amd64 dapper ubuntu installation. And I wasn't dependand on the video
file. Totem
