If i try to open a .jpg, it says it can't but there is no where in the
preferences to add .jpg to the handlers. ( you can see jpeg, but not
jpg, and there is no "add" option )

I upgraded to Swiftweasel 3.5.3 and the bug has become intermittent.
Once in a while it complains that various applications do not exist, but

I cannot reproduce the bug anymore. The reason may be that I was forced to

YES! This bug, or something very similar is still a problem.
I'm using Swiftweasel 3.5 now, but I had the same problem with a
previous version of firefox several months ago.
Inexplicably, all mime handlers are broken as of three minutes ago. This
started mid-browsing and persists after restart.
Is this still a problem for anyone using the latest Firefox 3.0 and/or
Firefox 3.5?

This can be rejected for Feisty since FireFox-2 is EOL.
I'm thinking this is more due to lack of plugins to handle .pdf or office.doc
files, you will notice it opens .txt .png .jpg ect.. fine, Is this correct for
everyone?

these not so common profile corruptions are most likely due to crashes

I can't seem to reproduce this on gutsy. But the reason may be that I
needed to delete my profile and start with a new one. So perhaps this is
one of the not so uncommon firefox-corrupts-your-profile-and-then

Hi Matt!
It seems you're using Firefox under Windows. There it may very well work
just fine.
This bug tracking system is however for the operating system Ubuntu (see
www.ubuntu.com) and the version of Firefox that comes with it. It is
this version that has the problem described above.
