I can confirm that this is still an issue on Maverick. Tested with an
MKV with embedded subtitles -- I get the italics tag instead of text
displayed in italics. If I use mkvextract to extract the subtitles to
an external .srt file, and then select this file in Totem, the subtitles
display
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. A new version of GStreamer is available on Maverick and
we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that
