I see this hasn't been resolved yet, and now innumerable people are
complaining about poor software raid support in Dapper - Edgy upgrades.
Having personally suffered from it and gotten around it by reinstalling,
it's a shockingly poor way to release a distribution. Imagine the furore
if
update-initramfs -u doesn't solve the problem. I ran it from a chrooted
shell of the system, to no avail. I also deleted the initrd.img-2.6...
images and recreated them with update-initramfs, but that didn't cure it
either.

Kyle could you please do the following:
boot with root=/dev/md0
check if the UUID used by grub is the same as the one in /dev/disks/by-uuid
(the symlink should point to ../../md0)
If it is not the same UUID, fix it in /boot/grub/menu.lst
update the initramfs or make sure to have the latest

I've tried booting with root=/dev/md0, but it's just the same as my
previous comment - /dev/md0 and /dev/disks/by-uuid are both not found at
all.
I've tried modprobing raid1.ko, which inserts successfully, but /dev/md0
is still not present.

Hi all,
Unfortunately the new version of mdadm doesn't seem to be booting my
system, it drops to a busybox shell and proclaims that it can't find
/dev/md0, or the /dev/disk/by-uuid/blah device - whichever one is passed
at bootup.
I don't know what workaround to apply either, unfortunately.

yeps ubuntu2 was still buggy. ubuntu3 does update the initramfs
automatically.

I can confirm this, the same happens on my system while passing
root=/dev/md0 leads to a successful boot.

This is definitely *not* a udev bug ... udev is not involved at all
here.
fabbione, if you're not willing to support md or RAID could you please
just say so, so we can re-evaluate whether to include it in main?
