My system freeze too with a nvidia Geforce 7500 LE ( Asustek ). I have
test all accelerated drivers and the only way to no freeze is booting
with particular parameters and disabling use of enhanced cpu instruction
set of nvidia-settings.
Reproduce the freeze is simple on my computer Fujitsu

in xorg.conf fixed the problem in my machine. No freezes for three
weeks. But this works only with AGP cards, I think.

could be faster. I haven't tried yet.

This bug happens for me as well on Feisty.
Started happening right after a system update switched me over from nvidia-glx
to nvidia-glx-legacy, like Antonio stated. Using the nv driver instead of
nvidia provides unlimited use of my machine without any instability. With the
nvidia driver from
I solved installing the nvidia driver from the nvidia installer (I used
the lastest usable non-legacy driver). Be sure to delete all the nvidia
related package and the linux-restrincted-module-(generic i386 ...) I
think that the previews problem is that the legacy driver is too old!

Well, this is only a guess, but could it be possible that this bug has
got something to to with adept updater. I've just observed the last few
days that everytime my system freezes, the first thing I notice is the
adep updater icon, which wasn't there before.
