I haven't experienced any sudden disconnections for about two months
now, and the commands I need to issue if I suddenly find myself
disconnected (despite the connection indicator showing I am connected)
have been trimmed down to:

I can't really test out the file transfer between computers. Not really
skilled enough yet. Can you point out guides for me to follow to
transfer files between Ubuntu and Windows laptops through a wireless
router?
If it's possible, try to catch a syslog of the event. It may be helpful.

I have what may be the same problem--connection drops during heavy
network usage on two WPA networks I've tried using Atheros AR9285. On
at least the Belkin AP, rebooting the computer did not help, but power-
cycling the AP allowed me
There were three random disconnections today from my wireless router,
and I managed to capture a syslog of one of the events via the command:
$ tail -n0 -f /var/log/syslog > /tmp/syslog
The events begin from attempts to connect to my wireless router, to
failure, to unloading and loading the ath9k
