cristian, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I have the same bug on an ASUS K50IE
The touchpad works again after I plugged my usb mouse or when I deactivate then
activate the touchpad with Touchpad-Indicator 0.6.4.
I tried to add to the kernel option i8042.nopnp like in the french
