I was able to enable the headphone part of the jack via the hda-jack- retask program, but the speakers were still enabled as well and continued tinkering didn't change that. So, the jack does not require any special connector as I was using my Sennheiser HD280pro headphones when I got the sound to

Same issue here on a ThinkPad X100e. This has regressed since earlier maverick kernel backports. Card0 Codec is a Conexant CX20582 (Pebble). Perhaps worth mentioning that the headphone state is correctly detected and handled at boot, but plugging and unplugging later does not work. -- headphon
