I have the same problem still with ubuntu 14.04, and have had it for a long time. Can't ecactly tell since when. But it must have been years. It's reproducible. It happens every time after resume. Maybe not if the resume lasted only for half a minute. What may contribute is the fact, that I

It seems this is a bug in empathy and not telepathy-gabble. I've used empathy daily for over a year now and this has never happened so I've just rolled back to the lucid release of empathy empathy-common (2.30.0.1-0ubuntu3) and I can now suspend and resume with empathy re- connecting instantly.
