This happened to me too. Need help rectifying my system. Do I just re-
run the dist-upgrade script?
Would it be useful to see my log also?

I moved the contents of the directory to another temporary directory and
rerun the upgrade script. A message came up, that said I should run sudo
apt-get install -f and then rerun the upgrade script again. I did this.
Half way through the upgrade, the x server was shut down and did not
come up

apt.log
tar does not work any more, so you get this as single files.
