pdftoraster failed by printing a pdf file

If I go onto a Maverick box and print the file into a PDF out of evince
and then run
cupsfilter -m application/vnd.cups-raster -p /etc/cups/ppd/raster.ppd -o
PageSize=A4 output.pdf x 2y
I get the error you reported.
If I print your file into a PDF file on Natty, pass the resulting file
over to
Seems to be fixed by the update from Cairo 1.10.0 to 1.10.2. For a SRU
in Maverick one would need to find out which change in the upstream
development fixed the problem.
Closing as it is fixed in Natty. Please add a Maverick task if you have
a patch suitable for an SRU for Maverick.

According to your error_log the problem is caused by pdftopdf (or
Poppler). It is full of error messages from Poppler. Seems that after
these errors no data (or unusable data) arrives at Ghostscript (called
by pdftoraster), causing Ghostscript to report an error, too. But to
find what the problem
