after numerous searches on the web (e.g. [1] [2]) I found a simple
solution to this problem.
1. apt-get install hibernate uswsusp
2. vim /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla
[Re-enable hibernate by default]

Having sort of the same problem, but the computer just goes back to
normal operation again, spending some time to get network (wlan) etc
getting up and running again. Also, after installing Ubuntu 12.04, the
Hibernate-option disappeared from the power-menu, even tho I've did a
'apt-get install hibe

1.) Hibernation stops at some point, behaviour then as if I only locked
the screen except that I sometimes have trouble resuming wireless.

My symptoms match this bug, the problem itself was introduced maybe 2-4
weeks ago.
And the problem is that swap remains in use after hibernate. I can do
one succesfull hibernation, but afterwards there is "not enough swap"
for a second one.
I have 2 GB of RAM and 2 GB of swap. After the first suc

I have the same problem as reported by Gabriz on my Samsung NC10
netbook, where I've just started running Ubuntu (so I'm a complete
novice!) next to the XP home installation. The login screen and I can

One additional annotation: the "suspend" command works ok for me, the
problem is with the gnome logout menu (and with the hardware key
assigned to suspend).

I am having this same problem in Jaunty (8.04).
DELL laptop, Inspiron 6400, ATI video card with open source drivers.
First i see signs of hard disk activity (just like in windows,
apparently saving memory dump to disk) then instead of turning off, the
login screen appears (the PC is just locked,

So I added the following two lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
blacklist intel_agp
blacklist agpgart
