I'm using DisplayPort daily on my ThinkPad T510 with a Dell 24 display.
There are occasional quirks, especially when the system tries to do
power-saving on the external display or I adjust the relative vertical
position of the screens, but things mostly come up and stay up if I
configure the

Obviously, I mean in the monitor control panel, not physically.

I do see the glitch in the original description when I use Fn-F7 to
toggle displays. Usually, toggling to the mode where both screens
display the same thing works fine, but toggling further is unreliable.

There's a fix for the kernel panic in some of the drm-intel-next
branches (commit 31acbcc408f412d1ba73765b846c38642be553c3).
Note that in my experience DisplayPort is still pretty much broken on
the Natty kernel even with this fix applied.
