Got it figured out. I didn't realise that transmission-common was a
completely seperate package that is apparently not removed when you
remove transmission from the Ubuntu software center. I went into
synaptic and marked it for complete removal and everything is working
fine now. Thanks

Ok I did some searching online and found the proper syntax for the
--purge option. So I ran "dpkg --purge transmission-gtk" and it appeared
to remove the config files. I tried again to run "apt-get --purge remove
transmission-gtk" with the proper syntax but it told me I could not
remove it because

How did you fix this problem. i am having the same issue. But I already
removed transmission through the Ubuntu software center. I am not sure
what the --purge option is. When I run "sudo apt-get remove
transmission-gtk --purge" it says transmission will be removed but
doesn't do anything. And when
