I'm sad to report the answer is no.
U1 client shows synchronisation in progress then after a short while
synchronisation complete.
Nothing has been brought down from the server.
All other aspects of tthe client report correct details [% of space
used, devices etc.]
Therefore, no change
URGENT update...
I have found went through my test script for this bug have just
retried the Restart option [next to the connect/disconnet button on
the client]
although everytime tried in the past was a fail... good news!
A folder sync'd to U1 via 12.04 is currently updating!

The result:
the folder synchronised to U1 has synchronised 100% on the 10.04 netbook.
the Ubuntu One folder itself on the 10.04 netbook - no change - has *not*
synchronised from server.
the Ubuntu One folder still syncs ok *to* the server
the file sent *to* the server does not sync to clients.
additional:
after restarting the 12.04 system the file sync'd *from* 10.04 netbook
to server *has* sync'd onto 12.04 desktop [guess it was just a bit slow
between refresh checks..
This leaves the one original fault as outstanding:
the Ubuntu One folder itself on the 10.04 netbook - no change -

Syncing used to work 100% on this netbook running 10.04 Netbook Edition - it
stoppped many months ago. Bug report was delayed whilst securing all data,
reinstalling 10.04 Netbook Edition and trying all optons [again] to resolve...
all to no affect.
