I'm experiencing the same bug on a fresh installation of 12.10 (the card
is an HT Omega eClaro, using the same CMI8788 chipset). lspci shows both
the onboard sound and the sound card, but only onboard sound can be
selected.

I have the same exact problem with my system on Ubuntu Natty 64-bit. I
tried updating to the most recent ALSA driver daily version,
uninstalling/re-installing, etc., hoping that perhaps something I did
would resolve the situation, but nothing helped. Ubuntu with no sound
