To properly track the problem down, we need some more information from
you... After booting the 2.6.20-12 kernel can you attach the following
output:
dmesg dmesg.txt
lspci --nnvv lspci.txt
sudo dmidecode dmidecode.txt

If possible can you also boot the latest kernel (2.6.20-13) with the quiet and
splash options removed from the Grub kernel boot line. This may indicate what
is going wrong.If anything interesting is shown, taking a digital photo of
the screen, and attaching it to this bug report will be
with newest -13 kernel today it still doesn't boot. the last message is
now loading acpi modules... the numbers in brackets below have
disappeared
