Samsung ML-1710 was working fine. There have been several cups updates
since then. I now have the exact same issue as originally reported at

Hi Till,
I have not had any issues except once last week. The printer took the
job. It awoke from power save mode, but then just quit thinking it had
printed the job. But this happened only once. I turned it off and back
on and it was fine. I did have an issue with the same printer (Samsung

Till,
I was planning today to run the tests you suggested, but I did not,
because my printer is now working properly again.
As you know last big round of updates included a new version of CUPS
and apparently that fixed the problem.
If the difficulty returns I will follow your instructions and p

Pascal,
Thanks for the reference. Unfortunately that Q has no answer. The
problem is almost certainly the same one reported here. Unfortunately
what has happened is that the problem has reappeared. It was fixed by
an earlier update of CUPS (in late May or early June) but the most
recent update

I regret to report that the bug seems to be back. This follows the most
recent update of CUPS, which I installed about a week ago. The Samsung
ML-1710 will only print if I turn it off and back on. Immediately after
power on, it will then do one print job, but no more.

Hi,
Here is a copy of my report. What is happening is when you first turn on
the printer and check the printer state in the printer status box, it
says idle. When you send the first job to the printer, the status box

Hi Till,
Yesterday there were over 100 updates to Ubuntu 12.04. Nothing there
helped with the printer. I had another 160 updates, including a kernel
up date this morning. Since doing all of the updates today, the printer
has worked perfectly.
