The issue is now gone, BTW:
1) the version of greeter package remains the same (in Precise):
lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.1.5-0ubuntu1
2) GTK+ 3.x library has been updated:
libgtk-3-0 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.2
** Also affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
** Changed in: gtk+3.0
AFAIK, ubuntu patched gtk3 to fallback to GNOME instead of hicolor, so
even if the icon was present it wouldn't be used...
** Changed in: lightdm-gtk-greeter (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided = Low

Lionel Le Folgoc, just try it for yourself. Just copy a computer.svg
file (i.e. from the Tango icon set) to the aforementioned path and
you'll see that it is indeed being used.

The UI template /usr/share/lightdm-gtk-greeter/greeter.ui references
an icon named computer. The corresponding file of this icon is absent
from the package (it's supposed to reside in /usr/share/lightdm-gtk-
greeter/hicolor/scalable/apps/computer.svg). Not a severe bug, but
trivial to fix.
